I bought these with my Derwent Inktense Pencils. The pencils need water to turn permanent into ink. I color with the pencils, and then apply the water. The waterbrush is almost like using a pencil. I can control where I want the water to go. This is very important in keeping the water in one area. You can buy different size waterbrushes if you want a bigger or smaller tip.

Definitely the best little travel item I've found in awhile! I carry this water filled brush with a 4x6 sketchbook and a couple of watercolor crayons, and can record impressions of a scene quickly. Best, they all fit into my purse easily. I have two sizes--they're great!

I highly recommend these in all sizes! As I carry watercolor crayons and use them almost exclusively in my artwork these brushes are perfect for me. These brushes can be refilled from any water source, whether it be from the kiddie pool, the hose or that water bottle we all find ourselves schlepping most days. They allow excellent control and awesome portablility. You can take them anywhere, be it the beach or a hike to the top of Cadillac Mountain to see the sunrise over Bar Habor, Maine and capture the beautiful morning colors. You just clear the tip with a simple squeeze of water and a blot on the back of your hand or a clean cloth (depending on what you have available). No more dirty water spilling all over from trying to clean all the paint out your brushheads. I feel you also have more control over the amount of water you work with too. If you want more water, just squeeze the brush. I did notice that with dark colors like black and brown,the bristles did become permanently stained, but that has not effected projects with any castoff.

If this is the only water brush you can get, then it is better than no water brush at all. It is hard to squeeze the barrel and the tips of the brush wear out very quickly. The Pentel is superior in every way.

maybe I received a bum one -but as I work, the pen leaks from the sides where it screws together. I imagine this would be a great item to have but I can only use it as a regular brush unfilled in order to avoid spills.
