(#1 REVIEWER)

I am quilter and have a collection of thimbles. This review presents the comparison of the thimbles along with images of how they fit.

Clover Leather Thimble set is made out of hard leather on top and plastic insert under it (the pink part). It is comfortable to wear, but the string that holds it together broke the first time I tried to use it (I was able to fix it by sewing it together). When I saw it in the store I liked its shape and thought I could use it to protect the tip of my finger (see photo of how I wanted to wear it) but they don't get much use as found something less fragile that works better.

I am attaching comparison and pictures of the thimbles in my collection. The numbers in the images correspond to the numbers below.

1. Leather thimble with a metal plate (marked #1 in the photos) is my favorite, most versatile thimble. Because it is leather it become shaped to your finger and gets more and more comfortable with use. The metal plate on the tip allows to push through and not hurt your finger. It does not have an opening at the top, so it may not work for those who have long nails.

2. All leather thimble (marked #2 in the photos) is extremely comfortable, but because it has no metal parts it provides less protection. I often use it as a second thimble on the hand to protect another finger because it does not get in a way. It has an opening at the top, so it works for those who have long nails.

3. Strip thimbles (marked #3 in the photos, the product in this listing) turned out not to be very useful. The leather itself can be penetrated by the needle, the pink plastic insert does protect the finger. However the string that holds thimble together on the back broke very quickly. I was able to repair them by stitching them together on the back to replace the string that broke. As you see from the photo they don't cover the very tip of the finger, so they did not work well for me.

4. Plastic thimble provides good protection, but hard plastic makes it a bit hard to work with. So I usually put it on only when my needle is stuck and needs an extra push. It has an opening at the top, so it would work for someone with long nails.

5. Thimble #5 is a thimble I made myself out of band-aid wrapped around my finger. I needed to protect my thumb, and my home made thimble worked best. If you have hard time finding a good thimble, give it a try making it yourself out of Nexcare bandages. They seem to hold the shape well, and I could put my home-made thimble on and off, so I could re-use.

6. Thimble #6 was a thumb thimble I bought, but I found that it got in the way because it was a bit too long and made my hands less agile. It has no opening at the top, so it might work for people with long nails.

So if you have to buy one thimble I would go with leather thimble with a metal plate.

First of all, it said they are adjustable but they are not. Second, the thread that holds the sides together pulled out the first time I used them and had to re-thread them with my own thread. The concept is good but the product itself is not that great. Would not recommend nor purchase again.

They must have changed the way these thimbles are produced. The plastic is not very sturdy and when used for quilting the needle pokes completely through the leather and plastic. Also, the leather used is thinner than in years past.

Honest reviews on Clover Leather Thimble Set, 3

I am very used to a metal thimble but sometimes teach newbies hand sewing skills. This thimble is surprisingly versatile and protective.

I can't wear a thimble as I perspire too much under it. I saw these and thought they would be just right for me. I haven't used one yet as I don't do much hand sewing but thought I'd like to try it. I opened them and tried on and it feels good just large enough with the stiffness to keep my finger from being pocked. I have taken up quilting so can use these for putting on the binding. I have the project too but haven't got to

First of all, I just ordered these Liquid Chalk Markers yesterday and in 24 hours they were at my doorstep!! I am an Amazon Prime member, but selected the free 2 day shipping and what can I say---Amazon is on top of things in the delivery department!

I could not wait to get these out and give them a try. I shook each one a few seconds, then gently pushed the marker tip down on a scrap piece of paper until I could see the ink color fill the nib. They were then ready to use. My first attempt at using them on a chalkboard surface was fantastic. So much fun! (I'll upload a photo above to show my first time using the markers.) There are 8 colors including white. The pens are easy to work with; the ink flows smoothly, the color is consistent, and it was easy to turn the pens to make varying widths of strokes, from very fine to thick. I am doing some chalkboards for a wedding reception in June and these will definitely make my work easier than using my regular chalk that tends to be dusty, easily smudged and often breaks as I'm using it. VERY excited about my new find!! Thanks for an awesome product at a great price! One suggestion: how about making a box of all white? I do lots of traditional chalkboard art and I can foresee going through the white ones very fast!

Before I even got these the manufacturer/seller contacted me with some helpful tips and tricks for using these around the house. I'd researched these pretty well before I decided to buy them so I knew a lot of stuff (don't write on my wood table, do write on the mirror) but it was still a nice personal touch that's kind of lacking from Amazon a lot of the time. Anyways, once I got them I started playing with them right away. I have chalkboard Con-Tact paper covering one side of my fridge, one sliding glass door, a bunch of mirrors, and some dry erase decals. I wrote on the mirrors and the window and the writing was very opaque and legible and wiped up immediately. I picked a test area on my chalkboard paper and made three small marks. One I wiped right away, one I wiped after fifteen minutes, one I wiped after an hour. The right away mark smeared cause it wasn't dry yet. I had to use a damp cloth to get the smear, but then it was gone. The fifteen minute mark wiped away easy with no problems. The hour mark was the same. So I wrote all over the chalk board. Two days later, I wiped one letter. It mostly came off but there was a little shadow underneath the top of it. I wiped it with a damp cloth and, voila, no more shadow. The dry erase decals didn't even have that issue. Bottom line the slicker the surface the better for writing. The colors are vibrant and really pretty, too. I would definitely recommend this product.

I really love these pens! We used them on chalkboard contact paper and made our own chalkboard for our weekly household notes! Fantastic pens. Works great on windows, mirrors, glass tables, whiteboards, etc. I think these pens should replace the old fashioned dry erase. No bad odor and wipes off much easier. These pens are great for kids and teachers! The colors are vibrant and they're so easy to use and the consistency is great. They draw and write very smoothly. They dry quickly and they wipe off in cinch!

Honest reviews on Liquid Chalk Markers 8 Pack - Bold, Beautiful Colors From

I used these pens with my daughter and she loved them! The problem with many chalk type markers is that they don't wipe off most surfaces like chalkboards, whiteboards and wood. I feel this is important with kids as mine have a track record of drawing all over our walls.

These pens wiped off easily enough so I am very pleased as a parent. The colours were vibrant and amazing too. We did some doodles on our glass top table as well without worrying that it would be permanent. The ink comes out well and you don't have to shake them much as the ink flows well.

Good customer service too, the package arrived in only a couple of days after being advised that it may take more than a week.

Only other feedback is that I would like to see a refill option, would be a cheaper replacement alternative.

Ok... I just got these "puppies" in the door and could not wait to try them out.

I guess I am not exactly a Kid Anymore...but that does not mean I could not use them

for something useful.

Here goes: I love writing Motivational Quotes all over the place...or even things I want

to Focus on and or Achieve. I am one of those guys that even keep a Scribble Board

in the shower....to JOT DOWN ideas when they come "Flying by me in a Nano Second"

....so having these Chalkers handy... is going to be fantastic.

I even love using them on Mirrors in the bathroom and even on the Fridge... leaving

little Motivational or / love messages to my Amazing wife... really... just ask her.

I also found that with these Liquid Chalkers I can EASILY wipe off from any of the surfaces

I have described...so that is good to know as well....I have tested them extensively.

I can highly recommend this seller as I got the product in a hurry and with the multitude of

colors that I now have at hand .... this household is going to be a Much more fun place

to live in.

Another thing I also noticed is that they actually SMELL GOOD too... how cool is that.

Very Happy that I bought these!

I looked for a bound book without ruled lines.

There are plenty of 'sketch books' with wire spiral bindings, but I don't need that fabulous watercolor paper and every spiral binder I have is quickly crushed so I ignore them.

Yes, the cover is 'cardboard', but it creases easily because it's not very stiff. Unpacking it, my cuff caught on the cover corner and folded over.

Very thin 4.5mm (3/16")for 80 pages. What tricked me was the smaller pictures of the books in their 'set of three' packaging. They look thick.

I didn't buy the 8.5" x 11" XLarge because the size is harder to carry, but I will as soon as I'm done with this.

These little books are perfect for on-the-go!

I use one for each class all my notes/sketches in one place. No bulky notebooks.

Perfect to stuff in your purse/bag and bring along.

The paper is thin watercolors make it pucker but for sketching, pen/ink, colored pencil it's perfect.

This is really a quality brush to use to create fine facial details when painting portraits. Really perfect for eye detail and hair strands. I use oil paints with a dryer, and use very fine transparent layers to build color, shape and form. These brushes hold up well after repeated uses and washings with turpentine and soaps, keeping their hair, shape, and a reliable, controlled spreadability. Sometimes I will recondition them with baby oil, which I believe extends their life. Made to last.

Rub-N-Buff Finish 1/2 Ounce Tube - in your choice of colors Review

AMACO Rub 'n Buff Wax Metallic Finish, Antique Gold, 0.5-Fluid Ounce
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
I purchased this item due to a high priced designer recommending it to change my silver wood frames to gold. I was hesitant since I paid several hundred dollars for the frames but my only other alternative was to replace the entire frame at a frame shop at several hundred dollars more. So, with little instruction from the designer, I went to work. At my surprise, it was super simple, looks fantastic and definitely a professional appearance. My only recommendation is to wear gloves, preferrably surgical and apply the thick buff to a board, spread somewhat evenly on a cloth before applying. In other words, it comes out in a thick log, similar to toothpaste. If you apply it that way, it spreads on heavy which is not always the best way to apply. Start with a small amount for a less clumpy look. Tube is small but goes a loooonnngg way...one tube covered two frames 4' x 4' with 1/2 a tube left over.

I collect nutcrackers. The gold finish on one of my nutcrackers has started to chip off. I asked at the art department at the local college what I could use to repair the gold finish. I was told to use a rub on gold paint. It would repair the finish and give it a professional look.

I searched the Internet for this product and am thoroughly happy with it. It did exactly what it said it would do, and my nutcracker looks brand new. I put a small amount on my finger tip and applied it to the damaged area -after a light sanding. A gentle buffing when it was dry created the satiny finish I wanted. It was easy to use and cleaned up in a jiffy. No mess, no smell. It can also be applied with a brush in intricate designs or small spaces.

This is an easy product to recommend. Perfect for a crafter or artist.

Best Deals for Rub-N-Buff Finish 1/2 Ounce Tube - in your choice of colors

I like this product, and use it on a variety of surfaces, like bone, wood, etc. However, they have discontinued most of the colors I used (more cuts to come soon!), and the product has some annoying problems. It's a shame that this once good product seems to be "on its way out."

I also have a lot of cracked caps. And, though it does thin with turpenoid products, they also change the color making it a little darker and harder to apply (doesn't stick as well). Also, one tube in the sampler pack CAME already dried out and hard, and one was all chalky and pasty and wouldn't stick to anything (Patina).

They told me, too, to try reconstituting the dried out tubes. But really you shouldn't have to do that to new product. Like the caps, that is a design/product flaw. They will send you more caps. But with a problem that common, they should just use a better quality cap to start with.

Also, as of this date, the colors don't match the images above. I'll see if I can upload a picture of my color chart. The Gold Leaf is really bright gold like leaf! And the Grecian Gold is almost exactly the same as the leaf or maybe a tiny fraction of a shade more orangey. The European Gold is a little more brown than the first two. It's the Antique Gold that is the more pinky color of the Euro swatch. The Spanish Copper is really coffee-colored. The swatch that's currently on the Spanish Copper looks like Ruby except the Ruby is very metallic. And of course the Patina that I got was lighter than the swatch (maybe due to the chalky-pasty problem).

Honest reviews on Rub-N-Buff Finish 1/2 Ounce Tube - in your choice of colors

We used this on all the door hinges in a large house. I mixed the pewter and the silver leaf together and the hinges turned out looking like brushed nickle. Just tape it off like you would any painting job and rub. Perfect results.

I couldn't tell how dark the color was by the name "Spanish copper." It was almost black and not a copper color at all. If it had a clear color guide I definitely wouldn't have purchased it. I found out the hard way. Won't do that again.

I got this at Joann's because I had the 40% off coupon which made it about the same price as the one Amazon offered and I needed it today. I have two of the hand-wind models (a KnitPick and a Royal) and I have an umbrella swift and the flat swift made by the Oregon Wood Worker.

In the hour that I've had the Boye Electric at home, I've wound off seven balls of Berroco Lustra (Aran weight, kind of slippery) and a ball of handpainted light sock yarn. It took two trial-and-error balls for me to figure out how to get nice, tightly wound balls, but after thatit has been smooth sailing and I really like this gadget.

I didn't have good luck with the umbrella swift so I put the Lustra on the flat OWW swift (which I love better than any swift I've ever used!) and it worked like a charm. I put the winder close to the flat swift and spread the hank of yarn out across the pegstook my hands away and it pulled the swift just fine and I just had to put hands on the yarn and swift every now and then if the yarn got twistednot more than once or twice per ball.

Lots easier on my hands and wrists than the manual winders and makes just-as-good-if-not-better center-pull balls.

I'm going to try to put a picture above of the seven Arans and the sock yarn to show how they turned out.

It's not perfect, it's noisy for one thing, but for what I want to use it for (occasionally winding off nine or ten hanks), it works fine.

If it "dies" tomorrow, I'll revise this review! :)

Oh, how sorry I am that I purchased this little machine. I really thought I was getting a time and work saver, but alas, it's nothing but a pain. I raise wool producing animals and either spin my own yarn or send fibers to mill. Literally, ALL of my yarn comes in skeins, so having a good ball winder is a must. Sadly, I went for saving money rather than investing in quality and ended up with something that just doesn't do the job for me.

First of all, the machine can tolerate very little tension. I use a wooden swift that has worked well with every ball winder I've ever owned over the past 15 years, and yet this winder cannot pull the yarn off of the swift. It simply stops winding and makes an ungodly scream and ratcheting noise. I have to stand and pull the yarn off the swift while it winds. Not really a time saver in that regard.

Second, because it tolerates no tension, the resulting ball is fluffy, flabby and messy. Knitting from the first ball wound off of the swift is an exercise in frustration because it tangles and knots very easily. I've since learned that I have to wind every ball twice to get it to be firm enough to use. Not really a time saver, either, I'm afraid.

Finally, the winder pooped out after about 6 months. The motor just stopped working a few days ago, which instigated this review. It was definitely not designed to be a work horse for a variety of yarns wound regularly by serious knitters.

An electric winder is a nice idea, but for someone who winds 10-20 balls a week, the hand crank version is a lot longer lasting and does a lot better job. It's been an expensive lesson and I regret the purchase.

Best Deals for Simplicity Boye Electric Yarn Ball Winder

I just got the Boye Yarn Ball Winder by Simplicity and I love it!

I am a "travel" crocheter and knitter and I am always having my yarn skeins fall down the train or plane aisles! It is so frustrating. This machine works great winding my yarn skeins so I do not have to spend so much time untangling. Thank you Simplicity!

I recommend getting comfortable with the machine by starting on a low speed at first. Mine seems to be lasting well.

Happy Customer :)

Honest reviews on Simplicity Boye Electric Yarn Ball Winder

I am writting this on my husbands account. He got this for me as a gift and i was a little worried with all the bad reviews, but i really do like it. It does what its supposed to do. Its not ment for anything more then 4oz of yarn. You might get a bit more on there but i wouldnt. I split up 7oz. into 4 balls. It serves its purpose for me and i dont regret not having it

Edit:

ok i have been using this for a couple days now. Honestly, i really do love it. I dont do hanks of yarn but skiens. And i know the big complaint was that it winds the balls to loose. Well, i have found that if you put just a little bit of tension on the working yarn, it makes a nice, tight, flat ended ball! Dont put so much that you make the machine grind and squeek, but just hold the yarn between your thumb and first finger and put slight pressure on the yarn as its going. if the machine stops or grinds you put to much tension on it.

This really is a nice machine. and i hopefully will get alot of use out if it.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Simplicity Boye Electric Yarn Ball Winder

My dear friend knew that I was receiving a yarn swift for Christmas and purchased the Boye electric ball winder to go with it. I did not think this was going to work well, but it did a good job. I still had to babysit the yarn to make sure the ball was not wound too tight. I am not sure how long this will last. It is all or mostly plastic and it will be interesting to see how long it will hold up.

I will try to let the ball winder work faster next time to see how tightly it winds at a faster speed. Then I will amend this review.

I would recommend this if you can get it on sale.
