This video is awesome! There is also a second part to this DVD, for color rendering, so look it up! I highly suggest it for students of ID. It's ONLY about rendering with traditional old school methods of marker and pastel/pencil, but all these principles still apply to digital rendering with Sketchbook or Photoshop. If you truly want to learn how to render materials, from glossy to matte, I suggest this DVD as well as the second part. If you want a strictly digital rendering how-to video, then I suggest looking elsewhere, like Renderdemo.com's DVDs.

I expected much better quality.

It was not bad for the price but the pen arrived cracked. I'm not sure if this was due to the product manufacture defect or the packaging issue.

I would recommend the seller puts photos of the inside of the guest book, i.e. how the pages are on the inside as it wasn't what expected.

The glasses aren't CLEAR glass, they are of pretty cheap quality but they didn't crack (surprisingly!)

The pen stand is cute and the cover of the guest book is not fab (that you can fall in love with it) but its pretty.

One of the charms from the wine glass attached from the ribbon so I will have to sew it myself back on.

Watch out for misleading photo. Photo shows 3 beads but you only get 1 bead. It does state further down in the information that it's per piece...who reads every piece of info on a rhinestone bead? And now that you've, I'm sure, read every word of this review..I'll tell you that it was quite pretty. Good Luck.

The first thing that you should know if you are contemplating a purchase of this item is that it is NOT a paint by number kit. Fortunately, I had purchased the kit for a refresher in mixing oil colors, and so the drawing on canvas was acceptable for my use. I did miss having a large colored drawing sufficient to allow me to color match easily, and the drawing suffered somewhat because of it, but I used a downloaded picture that sufficed to a degree.

I found the product acceptable, I just either didn't investigate the description sufficiently, or was misled by the description. Anyway, doesn't matter to me now, and this is a heads up for you.

This painting is very easy to do and turns out beautifully. I made a few changes in it and that also is easy to do. I painted it twice...so far. Once with the sun setting and once without. Both look amazing. I have had many compliments on them. There was more than enough paint and I have a lot left over. I used my own brushes tho as I didn't care for the ones included. That is a personal taste. All in all, the only complaint I have is that it didn't come in a larger size.

I liked this but it was my first and didnt turn out exactly as i wanted. Id recommend this for someone who wants to dive in the artistic but not be too dedicated.

UPDATE! 2013

I went back to it and tried to do it over again and found that I just didnt like this kind of paint set. It comes as a grey background and you have to paint over it to give it color. I have found that a regular paint-by-number is much more fun and turns out a lot nicer. I still do not like this kind of painting.

It may just be my eye, or that I have never painted this kind of kit before, but I was totally unsatisfied with the results. The finished painting didn't look natural or even close to natural, the colors were off. The instructions weren't exactly understandable, so I don't know where I went wrong. I did keep the plastic tray and will use it when mixing colors for other kits.

This was not what I expected. I didn't read the description well enough. It's a good idea, but I was looking for paint by number.

It is an OK pen set but won't last you a lifetime, 6 to 8 months at best, depending on your patience level. Best performance is when you use cartridges, converter is usless, leaks, and has to be primed by dipping it in the ink well to get the flow going, make sure you have a bar of Lava soap near by for clean up. I would not spend a great deal of money on the Classic or next set up. They both perform but only after much work. But I keep coming back for more since I cannot find a decent Calligrapy pen that you can pick up and write with immediately, but then I prefer an ink well and a good converter or just a regular ink fill pen like Parker use to put out. For a low price I guess you will not be disappointed, just a little messy.

I feel the need to vent my spleen at speedball. They make the worst nibs I've ever used. They'll rust on you, even if you take good care of them, and once that happens say goodbye to the quality of your line work. They're not the best I've ever used even when they are new. Don't buy them, it's false economy. I wish I knew the brand I was using back in the day, but I tended to just buy whatever loose nibs were available. My advice is, make sure your nibs are made of steel and that it's decent quality. Also, don't buy speedball. Ever. They don't know what they're doing and your nibs will go to pot almost immediately.

Reviews of Maries' Chinese Watercolor Set of 18 12 ml Tubes

This might be one of the very few instances where the item sent was better than the picture and description. If you look up Big Size 12 Colors Marie's Chinese Painting Colour(12ml) you will see a better description of what was sent. The difference being 18 colors instead of 12. At 18 12-mL tubes this is the best deal I've seen (at this time).

The colors provided, circle the color wheel and are a great started set. I did notice that the tubes had a good amount of air in them making the size of the tube containor disproportionately larger than the volume of paint in each. It didn't bother me so much because the price of the paints were well below smaller sets and sizes available.

The paints themselve look very similar to western watercolors. You can really see a diference when you use them on your Sumi/Chinese Caligraphy/rice paper. There is suppose to be a differnt kind of pigment binder in chinese watercolors making them better suited to these types of papers. I tested the western watercolors along side the chinese watercolors and notice that the western watercolors tended to bleed and diffuse out into the papers, resulting in a blur of running colors. If I added little to no water I could avoid this but since western watercolors tend to be more expensive then chinese watercolors it seem to not be the best approach. I was able to obtain crisp lines and vibrant colors using the chinese watercolors. Althouh the available colors for the chinese watercolor are limited they appear to be a better aproach for this type of media. I will just have to work on my color mixing techniques!

Quality control seems to be lacking on these paints. Some have a paste like American style watercolors, but some contain a bubbly, tinted liquid. It seems like the contents of the liquid tubes has separated and there doesn't seem to be enough usable color compared to other watercolors in a similar price range that I've purchased recently.

I use these for any event, but recently I used them for my mother's memorial keepsake. It was much more beautiful than the ones from the Funeral Home, and I was able to use Word (or Print Shop) to import pictures of mom and do a remembrance on the inside with pictures in each corner. The front third was a picture of Mom with her birthdate and place. The middle third back was the memorial information (services, interment, luncheon), and the in-fold third was Amazing Grace stanza's and scripture. The gold trim is classic.

These were lovely programs but unless you have an awesome printer at home save yourself the trouble. Printing them at home did not work for me, this card stock paper was too thick for my printer and I had to pay another $25to have them printed and that was for black only ink, in the end I HATED my programs and for the same price could have ordered lovely pre printed ones from Zazzle!

My son is 2 and loves this paint. He makes a huge mess, but the paint wipes up easily off of the desk and hardwoods with a damp paper towel. It also wipes off of him just as easy. Clothes come clean in the wash with no pretreatment. The paint is in a bigger tray than the standard water colors, so it is easy for him to aim the brush in the paint.

The price is just right for these brushes, and they are quality. I would not say they are quality for a professional artist who spends $40 on a brush, of course not. But I have enjoyed using them in my journals, with watercolor, acrylics, twinkling H20's and mica paint. I found one hair too long on one brush, so I snipped it off. But you will not find this overall. I am happy using these brushes for the purpose that I use them.

I am just starting out painting after a 50 year absence from when I learned oil painting at age 10. I bought the All Media Easel Artist Set which gives you a good assortment of oil, acrylic and watercolors to experiment with. I think that set is a good value for beginners and it comes in a really nicely made wooden box that gives you a place to store all your art supplies. The brushes and plastic pallet knives that come with this set aren't very good for serious work so I bought this One Stroke Folk Art Brush Pack and the Stainless Steel Pallet Knife 5-Piece Set.

I am very pleased with the wide variety and feel of these brushes. The price is right too (10 brushes for $20). I am just doing simple painting projects now, like making some signs. I bought both of Nancy Reyner's books Acrylic Revolution and Acrylic Innovation. These books are excellent for beginners. They give you hundreds of painting tips plus basic stuff like how you use and take care of your painting tools. They are like having a private teacher to answer all your questions. She has created two "must have" books for people like myself who can't take a formal painting class. The only thing I need now is to develop my skills and I am looking forward to many hours of painting and learning.

I highly recommend all the products and books mentioned above. All of them are available from Amazon.

I got these as a graduation gift from my art teacher in high school, and I absolutely adore them. They are easy to handle for a rookie painter and they definitely help with precision. The variation within one package definitely comes in handy. I would definitely recommend these brushes for both self use and as a gift. I have used the brushes a quite a few times and they are still in good conditions, just wash them correctly and they'll be fine. But when I looked at the price I was surprise that they could cost that much, but yet again for the quality of the brushes the price is justified.
