Review of 11Pcs 2-8mm 10.6" Multicolour Aluminum TUNISIAN/AFGHAN Crochet Hook

Customer Ratings:

About 5 of these hooks were very sticky on the hook end. I had to thoroughly clean the goo off before I could use them. I've only used 4 of them so far, but one of them had a burr on it. It kept snagging my yarn, so I had to switch to another one for my project. I'm going to have to file or sand it before I use it again.

It's hard to find tunisian hooks in smaller sizes; everyone seems to want to work only with bulky or at least worsted weight yarns. Well, some of us like much finer yarn--even sock yarn! This is a set for us. I like the thought of making a jacket in Tunisian stitch from lovely strips of rose-colored linen, or crocheting some other piece for my wardrobe, or my family's wardrobe in a lighter, finer yarn, because it drapes better than the heavier yarns, yet still has the speed of crochet rather than going into knitting which to me is slower (even though it has far more stitches to choose from). Besides, I'm in love with Tunisian stitch and want to use it!

Several of the needles have burrs at the tips. The tips are rough enough to snag my yarn. And the paint is chipping off of the aluminum in some places.

Honest reviews on 11Pcs 2-8mm 10.6" Multicolour Aluminum TUNISIAN/AFGHAN Crochet Hook

I was looking for a set of needles to begin learning tunisian crochet. Two of the needles have nicks in the hooks that snag the yarn. Good for learning stitches, though. One bonus...the smaller hooks are great for weaving in loose ends on projects with lots of color changes (granny squares)!!!!!

These work great to do any tunisian crocheting. I like that they are different colors for the sizes. Just can't do too big of a project on them.

Review of Jack Richeson Gouache Opaque Watercolor Set of 12 Jars

Customer Ratings:
List Price: $18.95

Yarka gouache is a good for the money. It has strong pigment. Not a great lightfastness of the colors. It is very opaque; pencil drawing does not show through the paint. It does not leave streaks of color but leaves round spots when you cover a large area. It is safe for kids, ACMI non-toxic.

The jars are very difficult to open and when you do open it, the paint often splashes. After paint dries it becomes much lighter. The thickness of the paint is inconsistent. Black is more watery than other colors. Yarka is far from professional quality.

I have been using these for about 10 years. They are easy to use. I agree about their light fastness, but I often combine them with other watercolors and even spray them after use with a clear fixative so they do not run when I back and stretch the xuan paper.

I have also used them on silk and found them to be very good.

You can create very interesting effects in your art pieces by adding rust. I have used casting material to form pieces such as a bust for a plaster form of when a friend was pregnant...her entire front was coated in saran wrap in some parts then Vaseline, then the plaster was applied from above the chest to below the belly. Once dried, we peeled it off. This made a permanent memento of this moment for an art piece she still has hung in her bedroom. I then coated the whole piece in copper and gold leaf. After that, I added the instant rust in some areas.

However, I have also brushed liquid copper onto art pieces and forms and then used this for effect. I have even done it on a canvas and under encaustic wax.

I bought these for my 4 year old who loves anything with a sea life theme. Our set came with black ink and the stamped images mostly come out nice and clear, even when a preschooler stamps. I decided to recycle the "handy storage tube" and use a different container that is more kid friendly.

These "elegant writers" are just the best for addressing envelopes! I have used them for about 20 years for all my holiday cards and gifts and rarely use any other brand!

Thank you!

Pros: Writing with a chisel tip, even without handwriting or lettering lessons, results in a more beautiful script.

This set has a good choice of colors for winter holidays and other celebratory events.

Cons: The tips appear to be chemically-treated felt. They don't feel smooth when writing and do occasionally lightly mar (scratch) the material on which they are used.

Dritz Tailor's Marking Set Review

Customer Ratings:
List Price: $15.99

This is a really nice fabric marking set, it comes with re-fills in different colors for any color cloth. The problem is that the leads of the pencil are really flimsy. I pretty much broke a full one because every time I went to mark a piece of fabric a little tiny bit would break off of the lead. Maybe I just got an old one or something.

Great marking set for transfer of pattern elements. I have used it with a great deal of satisfaction. Marks are more precise than with regular chalk. The eraser does its job well. Chalk "lead" is, of course, thin and it breaks easily. But, once you have the pressure use down pat, all is great.

Best Deals for Dritz Tailor's Marking Set

I use this to make legible marks on dark woods. As a woodworker I've used everything from sharpened china markers [sucks] to expensive white painter's pencils. The Dritz is the ticket with an easy to see mark that's fine as pine and better on walnut. Shazzam!

Honest reviews on Dritz Tailor's Marking Set

This marking set is amazing. A great, fine line, easy to use and change leads....just the best marking set I've ever used.

This product is great if you normally make A2 cards (half a sheet of carstock folded in half). I don't use tons of borders on my cards, but cutting out consistent rectangles that fit on the card perfectly is wonderful. I edge the cut outs with ink and it's all very fast and efficient.

When Spellbinders came out with these dies, I was less than impressed. What did I need another set of rectangles for? However, after making Christmas cards and fighting with my paper cutter to get a really straight cut, I saw a video demoing them on youtube and decided to get the A and B sets and give them a try. Well, I haven't looked back. I love these. They are so easy to use to make the basic matting pieces for the cards. No fuss, no worries, straight cuts and perfect layering every time.
